Next Generation Mobile System Security Advisory Committee (NGSAC)

The Next Generation Mobile Systems Security Advisory Committee (NGSAC) is established to bridge the gap between academic research and industry standards in mobile system security.

For over a decade, academia has played an important role in advancing the understanding of security and privacy in mobile networks, with hundreds of research papers published. Despite this, the direct influence of academic findings on mobile system security standards, especially those defined by 3GPP, remains limited. This lack of academic influence is largely because 3GPP is a member-driven organization and its technical deliberations occur in closed meetings open only to member companies without any participation and direct input from external researchers.

This committee aims to provide a structured forum for academia to collaborate in evaluating security research outcomes relevant to the next-generation mobile systems (e.g., 6G) and communicating them directly to 3GPP, e.g., by Liaison Statements.
